The Master of Arts in Teaching Leadership program helps novice and experienced teachers become transformative leaders in their classrooms and school communities.
MATL candidates obtain an applied degree, which advances knowledge and skills in culturally responsible communication, self-reflexive inquiry, decision-making, and action research.
Moreover, our innovative, cohort-based program of study prepares teacher leaders to dissolve personal and systemic barriers to social justice and respond bravely to meet the educational needs of diverse student populations.
We prepare our graduates to have an immediate liberatory impact on teaching and learning in K-12 educational contexts.

The Master of Arts in Teaching Leadership (MATL) program helps novice and experienced teachers become transformative educational leaders in their classrooms, schools, and communities. In one short year, experienced teachers excavate the personal beliefs that guide their practice, conduct a formal action research study, write a Master’s thesis, and expand their development as teacher leaders committed to educational equity. After completing the Master's Degree, our teacher-scholars are prepared to take a more active role in shaping school curriculum, policies, and culture skillfully within their respective institutions or districts (e.g., Department Chairs, resource providers, instructional specialists, curriculum specialists, and Teachers on Special Assignment).
Additionally, candidates may use graduate academic units earned in our degree program to advance on their district salary scale.

Program Duration
Sequence of 30 units designed to build skills that are applicable beyond the workplace. This is a program designed to help you grow and succeed.

Our MA in Teaching Leadership program is designed for:
- Novice teachers who have completed our 4 course teacher induction sequence (12 units), by May of the application year; and
- Experienced teachers with three or more years in the classroom. You will form a collaborative community with learners in your cohort who offer peer support and progress, and grow with you throughout the program.
